Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Farm Manager to oversee a mixed farming operation focusing on poultry production and vegetable cultivation in the Hartebeespoort area. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing daily operations, driving farm expansion, and ensuring optimal productivity, biosecurity, and cost efficiency across both enterprises.

 

Minimum Requirements

  • 5–7 years’ proven experience in commercial farming, with exposure to both poultry and crop production preferred
  • Strong knowledge of poultry production systems (broilers and/or layers), including biosecurity and flock management
  • Experience in vegetable farming, including land preparation, irrigation, planting cycles, and crop management
  • Strong administrative and financial management skills (budgeting, reporting, and record-keeping)
  • Experience in mechanised farming and workforce coordination
  • Ability to work independently and make practical, on-the-ground decisions
  • Strong planning, organisational, and problem-solving skills
  • Cost-conscious with a results-driven approach
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to manage teams and external stakeholders

 

Key Responsibilities

Poultry Operations

  • Manage all aspects of poultry production, including chick placement, feeding programmes, health monitoring, and harvesting/egg production
  • Implement and maintain strict biosecurity and animal welfare standards
  • Monitor flock performance, mortality rates, and feed conversion efficiency
  • Coordinate veterinary support and ensure compliance with industry regulations

Vegetable Farming

  • Plan and manage crop cycles from land preparation through to planting, irrigation, and harvesting
  • Implement fertilisation, pest control, and weed management programmes
  • Work with agronomists to optimise soil health and crop yields

General Farm Management

  • Oversee farm expansion projects, including land clearing, fencing, and infrastructure development
  • Manage equipment sourcing, maintenance, and contractor performance
  • Recruit, train, and supervise farm supervisors, operators, and labour teams
  • Implement systems to track operational costs, productivity, and farm performance
  • Manage budgets and provide regular operational and financial reports
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety standards
  • Liaise with suppliers, service providers, local communities, and other stakeholders

  • Willingness to work extended hours, including weekends, as required by farming operations
